I spent the day watching Bones.

I saw Brian for dinner.

Chris pinged me asking about kidney stones. Erin was diagnosed with a UTI earlier in the week, but the Dr. office called multiple times Friday afternoon. Most likely about test results, possibly the amount of blood in her urine, but not likely a kidney stone.

Stephan's 2nd check arrived. I need to write him to let him know and thank him.

I'm a day behind in my reading, meaning he taught the class yesterday on what I'm reading today. This is causing me problems, unsurprisingly.

Athena hurt her foot this morning. She has a raw toenail and I suspect she got it caught on blankets. All I really know for sure is she yelped loudly, twice, when getting down off the office bed. I was in the bedroom at the time, making the bed after my shower.

I was supposed to meet Brian last night to pick up rent and have dinner. I remembered yesterday morning, but forgot by the evening, only remember again this morning. I hate that he doesn't ping me when this happens. just stays silent and waits to hear from me.

This arrived today. No idea where it came from, but it was addressed to me. No note or invoice or anything with it. I double checked, and definitely did not order it. I decided to put my jewelry in it, but as I started going through my jewelry I decided to hang the jewelry hanger I'd bought a year or more ago, instead.

I struggled last night with the API update function homework. It turns out my code was failing because I was trying to verify the record was actually inserted, when the test was only checking to see if I used the correct call (PUT) to the API. The test was looking for an object ID that was not in our live database, but was in the mock used for testing. I was trying to return the verified object, which didn't exist because PUT doesn't add anything if it can't find the record to update. The test expected me to return the object I used in the PUT request, the assumption being the contract was fulfilled correctly whether or not the object was actually updated.git status

One of my favorite quotes, which I shared with the group today at bootcamp. I am struggling with APIs, and getting frustrated with my lack of understanding. It's not that I don't understand what we're doing. I don't remember the details of which command or annotation goes where, and I'm struggling to get the tests passing. I guess that means I don't understand why it's not working.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The weather is definitely getting to me. I napped for a couple hours today, after sleeping for 9 hours overnight.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I checked my bank account today and saw a balance of $0.00 with $362 negative, which made me think I'd overdrawn somehow. The only way I could think of to be that overdrawn was if Canyon actually pulled the payment they said they wouldn't. I pinged Chris because I didn't know who else to ask for help. He sent me $400 before I realized the bank was having problems and I wasn't overdrawn after all. I'm keeping the $400 until unemployment hits though, because I suspect I'll need it for my car payment. It looks like they won't have the systems updated until the end of February.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Leo sent out an email saying OMJ has new funds specific for the Tech Elevator cohort, that will pay the following:

$500/month in rent
$100/month in water (so $600 to Umberto)
$42.00 for internet
Up to $300 for health care

Ana's new baby, named Noah. Peg just sent a photo with no details. I'm not sure if Ana is keeping this one or not. I'm not sure how Peg feels about it. She did have !! when annoucing the Ana's water broke, but then nothing other than the picture. I'm thinking Ana is keeping this one, especially since Apollo was born.

Chatted with Joyce for a minute about being annoyed at myself that I let Rockwell get in my head. She had a similar experience at Instagram where her manager wasn't happy with her and didn't mentor or help her improve. She is now able to see what others are doing so isn't feeling so much like she's not performing well enough

This is the third time I've brought up how annoyed I am with myself for letting my confidence be shaken. I may not be the best student in class, but I am at one of the top students.

I'm afraid I might be letting my ego get the best of me. I'm struggling with integration testing, which wouldn't be the case if I had actually paid attention during class.

I talked with Gregor about my D&D Random Character Generator project, and got so many ideas on how to organize things. I'm still not 100% certain how projects should be organized, but I'm starting to understand.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kristi reached out on FB today. Just a poke asking how I'm doing, but still very nice to hear someone cares enough to say hi after months and months without contact.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The toys I ordered for Athena came today, including the Tug-A-Jug meal dispenser. I was late to the school happy hour because it took so long to load. I thought it would be fun for her to get the kibble out, but it takes just as long to put the kibble in.

From our happy hour. Turns out a background and foreground filter don't work well together, at least for me.

I enjoyed the bottle of Riesling I bought from Costco, even if it was a screw-cap, cheap-ass wine. It made me drunk enough to tell Nick I was almost willing to consider him moving in with me... after I get a job, maybe. I'm concerned about his health, as he says he can't walk from his apartment to the rental office and back without extreme loss of breath. He's got to be well over 300 lbs by now, and has to put his legs up several times a day because his heart can't pump blood back up. In my alcoholic haze I was thinking he would be healthier living here, where he wouldn't be tempted as much by the junk food Mark so loves. Ignoring the candy and cookies I've been living on for the month or so. I spent a bit of time imagining how it would work, practically forcing him to walk Athena at least once a day, making him move. Because I could make him do anything.

This is what my morning looked like:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recieved an email today from ODJFS about the 11 weeks of additional unemployment. The FB group I'm in said they should have the 5 systems updated by Jan 26th. I know I don't have it yet, and can't be certain that date is accurate, but I added the $$ into my YNAB to see how I'll fare once the money is coming in again. I'm pessimistically hopeful Biden will be able to pass additional assistance. I may not need that additional, but it would be nice to have that safety net.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm starting to recieve my tax documents. I recieved an email from Wells Fargo about  my mortgage documents today. My plan is to do my taxes once I get all the documentation in, but not submit them until I can pay them. Or tax day deadline, whichever comes first. I heard somewhere tax day may be postponed this year, which would definitely help.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Found funnies at Walmart that made me think of both Chris and Craig, so I sent them photos. Just doing that made me smile and a little sad at the same time, because I used to do this with Jeff.

I asked Gregor if it's better to pull a list from the database, then choose random from that result, or to have the database choose the random result to return. He said it's better to get just what you need from the database, so to get random through the select statement. The database is much more efficient at filtering data than the application would be.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New blog ID: read Redditt and draw cartoons of the "tales from tech" type of stories. Of course, I'll need to relearn how to draw. Yet another project dependent on that.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recieved an email from Lindsey at OMJ about the financial aid I emailed her about on the 18th. Apparently I'm not eligible for anything beyond the $25/day for attending the bootcamp, even though I've yet to see any of that money.

Since she mentioned them, I asked her to look into what's going on with these payments as I haven't seen any of them thus far.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In going through my email today, I decided to reply to the CHN Housing email, letting them know I don't have an email address for Mr. Montoni. I also wanted to mitigate the fact I'm current on my rent, since I paid December and January with the last of my unemployment funds. I told them I was able to pay rent because I borrowed money (kind of true, since Stephan sent me $$) and failed to pay other bills (also true, considering the debt renegotiation and putting off car payments).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

More retail therapy via Amazon today. I'm not sure what has me thinking I can afford this, beyond I haven't hit the limit on my credit card yet. I'm getting close, but I haven't capped it out yet. I think getting the email from CHN has had some affect. If they pay 3 months rent, I will be able to pay my credit card off. Of course, they only pay if I'm behind on rent, and as of now I'm current. I don't think I'll be hearing from them again.

Cutting boards, and disposable cutting board film to use on board built into the cabinets. I probably could have done without the latter, but I use cutting boards so often with lemons in my tea, I really needed several small ones. The rainbow ones above are thin enough I can cut them in half, and even in quarters if necessary, so I'm not washing full size boards for a single lemon.
Nail files. The ones I have are falling apart and worn down. This was something like 25 metal nail files for less than $10, which seemed like an awesome deal that will last a year or more. These have been on my Save For Later list for quite a while.

Thinking more and more I decided I could afford this solely because I hadn't maxed out the credit card yet. The nail clippers are a must, because Athena's nails are getting longer and she seems to have shredded one trying to trim it herself. I think that's what has caused her pain in her foot the past month or so. At least part of what, anyway. The rest are me trying to get her engaged with her toys. She's destroyed all the puzzle toys she has, leaving nothing but chew toys. Many of those she doesn't chew on at all.

These are just random shopping items. I don't really need the electrical tape, but it's been on my list for a while. I was using it to label freezer items. I have a lot of freezer items. The wax paper was a fantastic deal, at about $5 for the 3. I just purchased wax paper over the weekend, but ran out today and for some reason that meant I had to buy more.

Athena's Halti has torn a bit. Not enough I'm concerned for the integrity of it, but enough I'm concerned the integrity will be compromised if it tears much more. I almost certainly could have waited, but didnt. I bought another. Apparently I ordered 2 of them, so will have to return 1 when they arrive.

My shower back scrubber fell again, and this time split. This may have been what started my shopping spree, because I felt I needed a scrubber, especially now it's so cold and dry and my back itches if I don't scrub it. I ordered the new scrubber with suction cup hooks to hang it on so this one doesn't break.
I'm still waiting for Yoga Toes, but ordered calf stretching boots. I used to have a pair, but got rid of them. Now I want to sleep in them again. These look to be larger than the ones I had, but they were the least expensive for what I'm trying to do. I'm thinking the toe area may be large enough to wear both Yoga Toes and boots at the same time.

I bought brownie stuff last time I was at the store. I have 2 24-piece pans, but they are useless without liners because no matter how I grease them everything sticks. Actually THIS may have been what started the shopping spree, because I started out looking for silicone muffin tins. I have 2 silicone mini muffin pans, each holding 12, but that would mean multiple batches in an oven I can't trust to hold it's temperature.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been staying relatively up to date on the news since the attack on Washington. As in every few days, as opposed to every few weeks. I was catching up again today and found the NY Times advertising Punchbowl news. I already subscribe to the Skimm, which gives an overview of what's going on in a bipartisan way. That's what Punchbowl is also supposed to do, but it's written by people known for scooping the news in Washington specifically. 3 updates a day sounds like too much, but the free version is only 1x a day. That with the NY Times digest and the Skimm should keep me well informed.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I pinged Nick today about laying on the floor with his legs on a chair. He was complaining the other day about his legs getting blisters again, meaning he's not spending enough time with his feet high enough above his heart. He responded to my suggestion, saying it's too difficult to get up from that position. I have to remember I can't make people take care of themselves. All I can do is make suggestions.

I chatted with Julie, then called her today. I thought when we texted the other day she'd invited me to come visit her in April, for Easter. It turns out I read what I wanted to see. She actually said she's coming to Cleveland for Easter in April. She signed up for a race with Jen. Hopefully the pandemic will be more under control by then.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I applied for a student loan deferrment today. The most recent stimulus extension expires at the end of January, and I will not be able to afford reinstatement. I put the form in the mail on our evening walk.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The woman connected with Tech Elevator who is supposed to help us with support services popped onto one of our meetings today. She had emailed everyone at the end of the year suggesting we contact someone at OMJ for further support. She said the same again today, indicating there is funding available for this cohort specifically, and gave us contact information so I reached out.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We talked about Imposter Syndrome in class today. I identify with almost all of the 5 types:

Perfectionist: never satisfied and always feel my work could be better. "There's always room for improvement" is not the same as "never good enough" which is how I frequently feel. I've been accused more than once of fixating on flaws and diminishing achievements.

Superhero: feelings of inadequacy compells me to put in more work than others, or rather to just keep banging my head until I figure things out.

Expert: always trying to learn more and never satisfied with my level of understanding, again undervalueing achievements and expertise.

Natural Genius: Frustrated and disappointed when I don't succeed on my first try, as if I was supposed to already know something I'm trying to learn.

Soloist: Self-worth stems from productivity. I don't see asking for help as a sign of weakness, but I don't like to ask for help if I feel I haven't tried everything first, and I can usually think of something else I haven't tried.

I track daily achievements, but that is more productivity than success.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I realized today I haven't done any of the reading for the last 2 chapters. I'm starting to slip and fall behind, which will not work here.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had my 1:1 with Gregor today, and mentioned I'm annoyed with myself for letting Jason and Rahul get into my head, that I suffer from Imposter Syndrome. He told me I shouldn't feel that way because I definintely belong in the bootcamp, that my code is good and I'm a good student (not exactly what he said, but he said nice things meant to reassure me, and I believed him.)

He also looked at my D&D Random Character Generator code and said he'd think about how best to help me organize it.

I helped John with our SQL homework today. He's much more proficient in SQL, most likely because he's accustommed to using Excel, so used to thinking in columns and rows. I'm enjoying my time with him, and starting to feel like maybe I have a new friend. We'll see what happens when the cohort is over.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After hearing from CHN, I must have decided I have money to burn, because I spent $70+ on Cheesecake Factory delivery tonight.

I got the Shepherd's Pie, which prompted me to look for a Shepherd's Pie recipe. I got the brownie sunday, which prompted me to look for a brownie recipe. I also got a philly cheesesteak sandwhich, which did not prompt me to look up any recipes. I don't really have the money to burn like this, but at least it will feed me for several days.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Peg pinged me today, asking how I'm doing, which was nice. She's been training for End of Life Doula, in addition to her Physical Therapy. I think her mother's death really REALLY affected her, and I know she's got her father's health on her mind as well.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I moved from Google's shopping list to AnyDo, because it works with Google iHome. This means I can create a new list on the fly. I've started saving things to Done with dates as I complete them, and to Thoughts with dates when I think of things as I'm going to sleep. It doesn't sync immediately, which made me think it wouldn't work for me, but it does sync eventually and so far the lag has not been a problem.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Athena and I saw a herd of deer on our walk tonight.

We stood and watched them for several minutes, while I tried to get a good photo. I'm struggling with some option on my phone where it looks like it will take a photo, but instead starts taking multiple shots in a video format.

Nick called today while he was out with Mikey. I was annoyed I had to reiterate over text when I was in class and when I'd be able to take the call, but I've come to realize Nick either doesn't pay attention or has a very short memory span. He also tells me things multiple times, about people I don't know or remember. Essentially, gossip. It's important to him though.

I was actually glad to hear Nick's voice. Mikey said more than Nick implied he would, too. That's big for Mikey, since he apparently lost his voice when he was in the hospital for a hernia and had to be intubated.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amy pinged me today. I was thinking about pinging her yesterday, but didn't. I'm glad she reached out. We chatted about the puppers. She's taken a break from her basement because the next step involves frameing doorways and she's nervous about doing it right. I offered to help her if we ever get vaccines, but that's not expected until sometime this summer.

She implied the political situation is dire, but I haven't looked since last week when they invaded the capital building. Now I'm afraid to look.

Successes:

I made Athena food today. Turkey, green beans, kale, pumpkin, oatmeal, rice. It's actually sweet and quite tastey. I tried making the rice and oatmeal together in the pressure cooker, which didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped. I think I put too much water in, even though I used the recommended amount for both.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I brought the Convection oven upstairs to bake cookies in, because the regular oven thermostat isn't working right. Either that or the seal around the oven isn't working right. Either way I can't get a consistent temperature and it's messing up my cookies. I don't want to pay for appliance repair, and I don't want to tell Mr. Montoni because my rent check still hasn't arrived. You know, the one the bank sent out on 12/30/20.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm struggling with SQL in class, mostly because I can't find a tool I'm comfortable using. If we were in MS SQL I'd be find, but we're using PostgreSQL and none of the plugins for Code or Visual Studio seem to be working for me. I did finally get Code working, but after one query it just hangs and doesn't allow me to run any others. I never did get Visual Studio working, though I did find a tool within the Visual Studio Store that works for the most part. I can't change the theme color and can only connect to one database at a time, but I can at least use keyboard shortcuts.

Demo'd the Vending Machine Simulator capstone today. I had my partner walk through the menus, then I showed the actual code. We were farther along than the other teams, but at least one team had logging working where we hadn't gotten that far. My partner fat fingered one of the menu options, which showed us we still had a bug where the display showed internal workings (-1 is not a menu option, which was not what she entered) so I got the chance to mention how we were using Trello for bug tracking.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Athena's Bark Box came today, so I pinged Julie. It's a few days early, which is interesting considering how slow the mail has been lately. Julie has been fostering a dog for several months, and finally found a home for her, so she was excited / sad about that.

She suggested I come out to visit for Easter in April, once the bootcamp is over. I've mixed feelings about this for a few reasons.

First, I'm not sure what to do about Athena. I don't want to put her in a kennel, especially considering how she feels about other dogs. I certainly don't want her caged for a week while I'm gone. I don't know anyone who could take her because everyone who could already has a dog and I'm certain they would fight at some point. I can't ask Craig to watch her because he wouldn't want to stay here, and I don't want her alone for an entire week. I like the idea of driving down with her, but have to assume at least one of Julie's dogs will get bitten while we're there, and her dogs are much smaller than Athena. I'm considering buying a muzzle.

Second, I'm concerned about asking for time off before I even start working. Theoretically I could tell them ahead of time, but I don't think it makes such a good impression.

OmG what a PIA to get prescriptions refilled now! it's all on voicemail but you have to say name, spell name, phone number, say medication, spell medication, dosage, how many times a day, pharmacy name, address and phone. I completely forgot the Dr.'s office sent in a 90 day prescription plus a refill for 90 days. I had to call Giant Eagle, which is where the original prescriptions are, then Costco because apparently they have to call Giant Eagle to get them transferred.

Talked to Craig re: Marina, who has tonsilitis and will probably have to have them removed. He's in town visiting Brian and Jeffrey today, and suggested maybe we could get together but when I pressed for when he didn't know. Probably won't happen but it was nice to talk with him regardless.

I didn't sleep well last night and was super tired this morning. Sometimes the adderall does that, makes me more tired than i already was. You'd think speed would be the complete opposite but I've been able to go to sleep after taking it. I could. not. concentrate. and laid down through the first half of class, which was not a good idea since he was trying to get everyone set up with thier database. I listened, but missed some important information I'll have to review the recording to get. I was able to figure it out over the 2nd half of class and finished not only the day's homework but also today and tomorrow's reading.

Calling canyon is also a pia. I explain everything to the customer support agent, but they don't have authority to skip my payment so I have to go through it all again with a manager.

I'm terrible at taking pictures, but roasted a turkey for Athena's food today.

We finished the Capstone project tonight, around 11pm. I thought we would be done earlier but forgot the hardest 90% is when you think you're 90% done. All the troubleshooting and getting things to work correctly is what takes the longest.

I am happy with the method used to return change. The first pass at that was way too long and repeated code for every coin. I tried to condense it by making every calcuation a different method, but that really didn't make sense. In the end I figured out how to do it while out walking with Athena, by using a Hashmap and feeding that into the calculation method, then concatenating the output into one long string.

I also am happy to have figured out how to return to the main menu when the purchase is complete. We didn't get the logging done, but I'll finish that over next weekend before putting it up on my Github account.

Overall, I can say I wrote the entire thing, though I wouldn't say that in class or to anyone connected with the school.

I wasn't able to play D&D because of the Capstone. Turns out Craig couldn't play either. He had to take Marina to the ER after work. She's apparently got a bad case of Strep, and can't get herself anywhere because she doesn't drive so is at the mercy of Craig's schedule. For me, I would have left early but I guess he can't do that when he's the manager.

Chris called, which was nice. I was thinking about pinging him this weekend. I couldn't talk because we were working on the Capstone, but I told him I'll call him tomorrow after class, and I fully intend to do so.

Mr. Montoni stopped by again today. My rent check still hasn't arrived, even though the bank site indicates it was sent on 12/30. At least this time he seemed to understand what I was saying. When he stopped by earlier in the week he had just been to his bank, which happens to be the same bank my mother uses for the account my name is on. They apparently told him I would have to go in to the bank and deal with the check when it arrived. He didn't seem to understand the check wasn't coming from that account.

I had to explain several times that the mail is running very late at the moment. Before he left he mentioned he's still waiting for his tax bill, which is apparently due to be paid on the 15th. I told him if he didn't have the check by wednesday to let me know and I'd stop payment on it then write him a new one.

He also asked me about how I'm going to pay February's rent. I told him I expect to get the stimulus unemployment, but it may not be implemented on the unemployment site by February 1 so I might be late again. I understand his concerns. He's been stiffed on rent before. I will pay him, one way or another, but I can only do what I can do.

The day was mostly working on the Capstone project. I believe we can finish it, even with how slow my partner is. I'm happy with how it's going. I am, however, getting tired from thinking and staring at the screen for long periods.

Worked on the Capstone project today, and am quite happy with how it's going. I mapped out all the classes with variables and methods in Trello, made checklists for everything including which tests to write, and am switching off with my partner on writing them. Well, switching off on who's typing them. I'm telling her what to type, including "move up 2 lines and hit enter." She still gets confused on where the brackets should be, but she now understands things like "make a private List of strings called inventory." I hope by the time we're done she'll know which loops to use when I say "loop through <this> to get <that>."

I now have a definitive answer for the interview question: "Tell me about one of your weaknesses." I'm too tenatious. One of the tests was to verify we returned a list of strings, but we couldn't just compare the lists as equal because they each point to different memory, and that's what gets compared. I spent at least an hour, maybe more, trying to figure out how to test that, walked away from it twice, but kept coming back to it. I don't like to give up or quit. I did eventually find a way to test it, but now we'll have to work more into the weekend than I'd hoped to finish before Monday.

I also have to find time to update my resume and LinkedIn before Monday.

I was right about the Capstone project. I'm trying to have the patience to let my partner help, but it's quite difficult. I ended up writing out all the classes and methods in Trello, then went through and determined which should be tested and how. I did explain to her what I was doing and why, but I don't know if she understood.

I'm trying to let her type as much of the code as possible, to get her more comfortable with it all. Unfortunately, I'm literally telling her what to type, including "hit enter here," "delete that extra line," and "move up one line." She's a very slow typist, too. She doesn't use keyboard shortcuts or the auto-complete features of intellisense.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure how or why, but I remembered today about stretching my toes. I spent an hour with cotton balls between my toes, and found all sorts of places untensing. My tailbone area. My calves. My ankles. I wish now I hadn't thrown away the yoga toes stretchers I used to have. Not sure why I did that either. I need to get another set.
